Modern yet timeless...

Our's is a common sense approach to design that realizes the uniqueness of each human environment within the whole. One’s vision of place becomes an innovative translation of form that is both timelessly elegant in its presence and effectively sustainable by its manifestation.

B.A.R.N.

The is a new model for 21st century sustainable rural development. B.A.R.N. is to be a model Building for Agricultural and Residential Needs.  This project is to be constructed according to State and County Zoning and Building Codes and Standards in rural Clackamas County, Oregon. The program calls for garage and shop space, storgae areas, an attached barn, 2nd story storage lofts, mechanical space for systems, living areas and an integrated greenhouse.  The entire building is to be insulated with the living spaces detailed to perform to Passivhaus standards. In addition to rigorous adherence to traditional passive solar design principles, the building is to be integrated with a 20 kW grid tied Solar Electric system with battery backup.  A Solar Thermal system will be used for hot water and hydronic heating.  Wind generators will augment the power supply and the roof has been designed to capture upwards of 20,000 gallons of rainwater to be used for reflushing toilets, exterior maintenance and general irrigation.  The integrated greenhouse and adjacent farmlands will produce the fruits and vegetables consumed, along with the raising of small livestock, bees, and fish.  B.A.R.N. will be a living laboratory intended to grow and develop over time into an organic machine of sorts.  This is where Architecture recommits itself to facilitating a symbiotic balance between Man and Nature.

Construction begins this Summer. Watch this space for updates.
